The Regional Transportation Authority, the entity implementing the region's $2.1 billion, 20-year transportation improvement plan, has named six new members to the Citizens Accountability for Regional Transportation (CART) Committee.

The new CART members, each serving four-year terms, are:

Ace Chicago, a small business owner from Marana. He brings his experience with the RTA's Main Street Business Assistance program at the Twin Peaks Interchange to the committee.

Al Cook, former General Services Manager for the Town of Marana, has over 30 years of transportation and construction management experience including administrator of Sun Tran.

Sami Hamed, a Program Specialist for Pima County. She also is a member of the City of Tucson's Transit Task Force and Chair of its Transportation Advisory Committee.

Joseph Oliva III, a retiree, brings over 25 years of transportation planning experience to CART from his prior work in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Michael Jamison Sumner, a small business owner, has been involved in transportation issues for the past nine years as a member of the City's Transportation Advisory Committee.

William P. Sheldon, who served over 20 years as the City of Tucson's Director of Intergovernmental Affairs. Sheldon holds a doctorate in civil engineering and was a member of the City's Department of Transportation.

In addition, John Sullivan, representing the Town of Sahuarita, will serveĀ one year to complete the term held by the late Dennis Skelton. Sullivan was a Sahuarita town council member for five years. He also managed several law firms in Chicago and California and has devoted his retirement to public service. Since 2009, he hasĀ served on the Arizona State Bar Association's Board of Governors.
