Southern New Hampshire University announced plans to open a new operations center in Tucson to connect with their western online students.

The center, set to open in 2020, will house student-support staff, academic advisors, financial services staff, admissions and IT support.

“We are thrilled to announce the opening of our new Tucson office,” said Paul LeBlanc, University President and CEO, SNHU, in a release. “Tucson is a vibrant city and we’re excited to be part of the community and to bring good jobs to the city. The new center allows us to better serve our thousands of students on the west coast.”

Tucson was chosen out of six potential western locations, and the new center will be in the downtown area.

“After a nationwide search, it was not only Arizona’s strategic location that was a key factor in this expansion but also the exceptional quality of life in Tucson,” said Sandra Watson, president & CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority. “We welcome Southern New Hampshire University to Arizona and look forward to its success.”

Initially the center will have 100 staff members, and hire a total of 350 employees by 2021. Rio Nuevo is eager to help with the project, according to the release, explaining that creating more jobs downtown leads to the creation of a sustainable urban core.

County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry, Mayor Jonathan Rothschild and Joe Snell, president & CEO, Sun Corridor Inc. also expressed support for the project.

Open positions for the new Tucson center will be posted this spring at:
